Texas State Park Mountain Biking

by | Oct 22, 2016

Plans always change. This weekend was supposed to be a nice bicycle tour from Cleburne State park to Dinosaur Valley State park. But, weather and equipment issues led us astray.

My adventure buddy and I decided to back off on the overnight trip and instead just do some mountain biking at Dinosaur Valley State park. Embarking on this journey, little did we know there was a large developed trail system. We headed out, got lost, met a local who frequents the parks and received some guidance. Our guidance was mostly to adhere with our equipment. I was sporting the steel touring bike while my counterpart was using a modified mountain bike with slicks. Challenging, yes. Traction, no. Fun, double yes.

Later that night, the temperature dropped and found some scrapped wood to make a fire and warm the evening. The cold air then proceeded to release the moisture in the air and rain for the next 36 hours. Day two of mountain biking was out of the question. Instead, we dawned our raincoats and headed out on a morning hike through the park. Cleburne, our evening destination, has a nice lake with some beautiful single track. We traversed the trail right below the damn. This trail could serve both cross and mountain rides for beginners.

Driving back home, we realized we had made a decent choice not to do the tour, the foul weather would have made that Sunday, one awful way to end the weekend.
